About the Performance

For the last two seasons we have devoted a special period of time to theatre research and development that culminates in an evening of readings shared with our audience. For many subscribers, The Ark evening is a highlight of the season.

In a programme unique in Canada, the NAC English Theatre partners with the National Theatre School of Canada to bring together some of the country’s finest professional theatre artists and theatre students for a three-week intensive workshop experience designed to enrich our understanding of the history and context of the theatre.

In the 2008-09 season, the focus of The Ark will be the works and world of German poet, playwright, theatre director and innovator Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956). A seminal theatre practitioner of the 20th–century, Brecht has had a far reaching influence, not only in playwriting but in dramaturgy, on theatre production and on the notion of theatre as a forum for political ideas.

Join us for an evening of readings and song as the company shares the discoveries they have made during this wonderful creative process.
